E. J. Dent 18k Gold Open-Face Key-Wind Fusee Pocket Watch with 18k Gold Dial

For sale is an E. J. Dent 18k solid gold open-face fusee pocket watch from the 1800’s with an 18k gold dial. The watch has an 18k gold case with a hinged bezel, hinged movement plate, and hinged back. The case measures about 38mm (without the pendant) and about 10mm thick with the crystal.

It has an 18k gold dial with very fancy floral scrollwork, an annular guilloché (engine-turned) chapter ring with gold Roman numeral indexes, and black spade hands (which have some rust). The case body has fancy coin-edge sides surrounded by floral scrollwork, including floral scrollwork on the hinged bezel. The rear cover has a guilloché (engine-turned) geometric cross-hatch design and is inscribed with initials. The pendant and swing ring are also nicely decorated. The 18k gold dial is in excellent condition; the case is also in very nice overall vintage condition. Please see the photographs. The crystal has many small scratches and could use a buff. All three latches work well. The watch weighs about 44 grams.

The fusee movement is signed “E.J. Dent, Watchmaker to the Queen” and is marked “London” and “No. 6693.” You must wind the watch counter-clockwise (or you will damage the movement). The inside of the cuvette (guarding the movement) is marked with a royal crown 18k hallmark, followed the serial number of “6693” and also marked “HW” and “JW.” The inside of the rear cover is also marked “6693” and “HW” and “JW” with a royal crown 18k hallmark along with two other proof marks. The watch comes with a winding key and a leather watch pouch signed “Mappin & Webb, Regent Street, London W.”

No original box or papers. The watch has not been serviced but is in proper working order and keeps approximate time, but it is sold in “as is” condition with no warranty because it is a vintage watch.
